Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Ah finally a clear indication of "good enough". My uncle used to date the sister of this guy called Fritz Kreisler who played an expensive violin. This musician got tired of the compliments paid to the fiddle. So one day he went and smashed his instrument after playing the first movement of a...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

The new 8x25 is seeing zero use from me, I am simply afraid to take it outdoors. My 7x42HD is enjoying its intensive use ... the problem is I like more the more I use it. Edmund

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

You are right. And still I think that there are cases when adopting a utilitarian point of view changes ones approach to things. I have a nice Leica glass I bought as a demo, which I taped and which I bang around, I have a superb Zeiss pocket glass which I didn't take along today because it...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I compared my used-buy Ultravid to an SF x42 Sure, the SF wins; but not enough to warrant the price difference. I think if one really really likes a view, then the buy is easy, otherwise when the differences are incremental, reason grabs the handbrake 😀

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

My feeling these days is that any binocular you have with you is enough binocular. The true price you pay is the weight. Edmund

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Because good is good enough. Because the $1500 difference funds a couple of weekend trips. Edmund

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I tried a friend's Habicht - I wear glasses but try to remove them when using binos if the binos can accomodate my myopia- and I got a tunnel view compared to a huge view with my 7x42 Ultravid. Does there exist a porro with an expansive immersive view angle such as a modern roof?

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

Ideally, that would be the way to go - invest in a nice design that might possibly be mass produced, make it in a luxury version, figure out from user feedback and your own repair facility what needs to be tuned, revise it so it's cheaper but has the most interesting bits eg. the fast focuser...

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

I too almost bought an 8x32 Conquest during a sale and regret I didn't. TBH, my feeling is the SF is just a 1/5 size market study for the next Conquest, and people are paying for the privilege of seeing the future today :) Edmund

Is the 8x32 Victory SF really worth almost 2.5x the cost of the 8x32 Conquest HD?

So the Conquest is a very good product and the SF is a superb design. However the Conquest is half the price of the SF, so Zeiss probably sell 4x more Conquests than SFs. Because of the resulting economies of scale, I believe Lee will agree with me that the Conquest becomes easier to manufacture...
