I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

So basically, after all of this, we can conclude that Dennis' Grand Unified Theory of Binoculars is that we should all be walking around with an 8x32 around our necks, except for that "Twilight Zone" moment when we magically whip out our 10x25's and bask in all the extra details we can see...

The point I was trying to make, and which you probably didn't understand, was that when using a 10x25 the image you see, regardless of magnification, is going to get darker quicker than for a person using an 8x32 or even a 7x42. To put it simply a 10x25 might become unusable at 19:00, an 8x32...

Totally agree! Is it perhaps also true to say that the perceived "twilight" will arrive a lot earlier for an observer using a 10x25 than for one using an 8x32, because of the latter's higher brightness/light gathering factor?

Yes, sorry about that - the twilight factor of a 10x25 is indeed around 15,8. However subjectively I would still prefer to be using a 8x32 at dusk than a 10x25.

According to a quick internet search the 'twilight factor' can be calculated "by first multiplying the magnification by the objective lens diameter and then finding the square root of the result' So a 10x25 has a twilight factor of=11,18, an 8x32 has a twilight factor of 16 and an 8x42 has a...
