Good work finding the ouzel- I haven't been to Waseley in years but if it's anything like Clent at the moment there will be too many people for my liking. Chris

A trip to Bartley this morning produced another new bird for me at the site- a Wheatear sat on the wall of the dam (excuse the poor record shot). Also 4 Common Sandpiper, singing Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitethroat etc. Chris

A Common Sandpiper was along the southern shoreline today- certainly my first of this species in December at the site. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

A visit to the reservoir at midday today produced a single Lapwing on the far shoreline (the water level having dropped) and a Goosander. Suprisingly no Goldeneye were to be seen. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

The reservoir this morning seemed fairly quiet from Scotland Lane, with 4 Great Crested Grebe, 7 Tufted Duck, 32 Mallard and 1 Grey Heron. 7 Cormorant drifted over from the dam and circled but failed to land, eventually heading off towards Frankley. The stubble field above the reservoir opposite...

6 Shelduck were together on the bank opposite Scotland Lane this morning, and 3 Wigeon were amongst c. 50 Mallard, so autumn definitely seems to have arrived. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

Just managed to see the Arctic Skua myself. The bird spends most of its time flying high above the reservoir but I believe it may have landed on the water at least once whilst I was there. An excellent find given the challenging conditions. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

I agree, the drop in the water level seems to have increased the potential for passage waders- a Greenshank was present along the southern shoreline this morning. Terry Hinett reported a summer-plumaged Black-Necked Grebe yesterday but no sign of the bird thus far today. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

6 Common Scoter (3m+3f) were present on the reservoir when we arrived at 7.15am and seemed to have departed by 7.40am at the latest. This continues a good run of sightings of this species at Bartley. Chris

Thanks Laurie and well done on the Long-Tailed Duck- these birds are the reason we visit relatively less productive sites, and personally the satisfaction is greater in finding one's own scarcities at a less-watched location :t: Chris

Arrived at 7.50 this morning and found 5 drake Common Scoter out in the centre of the reservoir. At first they looked quite flighty but they were still.present before I left at 9.10 they had begun diving but probably finding very little. Chris

Yes I've still not caught up with shoveler at the res but had my first teal a while back. A single lapwing was along the shoreline this morning which was good to see and only my third wader here after common sand and redshank. Chris

    Bartley reservoir

It really does come to something when you have casually watched a Midlands site like Bartley for a few years and you see Whooper Swan before Mute. Thankfully 3 Mute dropped in this morning and filled a gaping hole in my list for the reservoir. Also 2 Grey Wagtail were along the shoreline and a...

    Bartley reservoir

Thanks for the heads up. I always view from the car and only spend around 30 minutes there as aside from the gull roost you can view pretty much everything on there in that time. Chris
