    Hi Jörn, trying to find a suitable Scoliid image from Europe on the internet is almost impossible. The following species looks like it will come from that area, Scolia erythrocephala. Do you think it might be that one?

    André, can you give any more information about what it looked like. I suggest that from the Circium flower its on, that it is somewhere between July-August? Could be a large solitary wasp species (none social species) judging by the dark wings?
