    Inaccessible bird species

I hope so, but then again, as long as there aren't any alternative places (there are no stake outs at the moment, and it isn't even known where best to look for the bird), it could fit in the list.

    Inaccessible bird species

Fair enough and, as I haven't said so before, huge thanks for compiling the list. I know this kind of lists (especially those without too much info) are hard to compile / fine-tune. But whatever may be on the list, I hope you will update it every now and then. Some species (like the...

    Inaccessible bird species

You haven't read my post (as I have refuted all of the bold parts in your answer, in my post, with good arguments). It hasn't been seen yesterday, and there are less than 10 checklists on ebird that can be considered either trustable or have the potential to provide evidence (while they haven't...

    Inaccessible bird species

This is quite a bit different: It's a highly desired target bird on a popular itinerary, and guides in Ranomafana (about the only place on the birding circuit the bird is seen regularly) told me they haven't seen it themselves for >5 years. So this isn't a matter of a bird in a place where...

    Inaccessible bird species

For category E, I would add Yellow-bellied Sunbird-asity. No pictures since 5 years (Oct. 2018) and while there may some 'true' sightings since that time, there aren't that many. So "Technically accessible, but very rarely encountered" seems like a good fit.

    Inaccessible bird species

I would add Yellow-bellied Sunbird-asity. While there are probably sites and there are most likely 'true' observations (maybe some in Ranomafana and most probably the ones in Andohahela), and while this species is known from some other areas (like Marojejy), this species hasn't been...

so in essence, it's a (very) hard trek but it isn't 'unsafe'...?

    Inaccessible bird species

While not for the faint-of-heart, Lake Lufira Masked-Weaver has been seen and photographed by a Belgian birder I know personally. He was travelling for work, and I reckon he did this as a day trip from Lubumbashi (which has air connections to all parts of the world). So while reaching Lake...

    Inaccessible bird species

Sometimes the Volcanoes NP is relatively safe, starting from Goma, but unfortunately that doesn't mean that most of the range-restricted birds are within reach...

    Inaccessible bird species

I would not include the Sira birds. Those can be reached and seen. But most people are just too lazy. ps @ Maffong: thank you very much for your work with regards to this thread...!

    Inaccessible bird species

I would say that Ross' Tsingy Wood Rail adventure was not very representative. It was just one dot on a line / curve of people's experiences having tried to see this bird, and in his case, he was quite unlucky with the vehicle and didn't have good road conditions. I have seen and photographed...

    Inaccessible bird species

Yes it is really dangerous. While the Palm Tanager is technically in areas that are among the (relatively) best / safest in the country, getting there is not safe. There is a constantly risk of being ambushed by bandits, for sure if you are a tourist.

    Inaccessible bird species

I know people who have seen this bird, at the classic locations, in 2022. So I reckon there is a fair chance to see one, and all it takes is going there, and asking around for info or hiring a professional birding guide who knows the whereabouts.

Is Lake Habbema and surroundings no-go area at the moment? I know there have been stories about the deteriorating safety situation, but haven't followed it closely. Has it something to do with the W-Papuan independecy movement?

Firethroat should be OK, as China is open for tourism. Pitcairn, Caroline, Nauru, Kirimati, Cook's, Rimatara, Moorea, and Henderson Island Reed Warblers for category B) ? :D ps: looking at all Pacific Acrocephalus, their future is very bleak...!

that's the best news of today! I just wonder where 'upslope of Unal' is, as the UNAL campus is South East of Valledupar, not exactly towards the Santa Marta mountain range... Mount Cameroon Spurfowl is easy to hear, but seeing them is a totally different thing. Sandy scops has been seen and photographed last year: https://ebird.org/checklist/S115800508, so I would say it's maybe not staked out / 100% gettable, but it's one of those species you could see if you are...

Exactly my thinking, and I tried to suggest this without being condescending or rude, but it's hard to do so online.

    Inaccessible bird species

Yellow-crested Helmetshrike has known populations (more than one). The only problem is getting there (safely). It's a category D, rather than A species. Dusky Tetraka maybe doesn't have a known population, but at least it's known it should occur in Marojejy. The only problem is that no one seems...
