Common names

For such a straightforward taxon pair there's certainly a good range of available common names!

Schuchmann 1999 (HBW 5) gives Black-breasted or DeLalande's Plovercrest Stephanoxis (l) lalandi and Violet-crested or Loddiges's Plovercrest S (l) loddigesii.

[Monroe & Sibley 1993 also uses Black-breasted and Violet-crested.]

Cavarzere et al instead use Green-crested Plovercrest S lalandi and Purple-crested Plovercrest S loddigesii.
