What to do with this chick (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I'm wondering what to do with this chick. I don't know the species (maybe someone here can help). Looks "coot-ish". I'm thinking I can take him to a small local fresh water pond where there's coots, ducks, and shorebirds, leave him there and let nature take its course. I feel sorry for this baby, I wish I knew how to properly take care of him. Ideas/suggestions much needed. Thanks.

Hi,
I wouldn't know what to do, but have a look at this thread:
http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=62444
I think it's a dove or a pigeon.

Looks like a dodo to me ;)

OK, where did you fnd the chick? Was it near a tree or bush or pond where it could have come from?

It doesn't look like any bird I'm familiar with?

It is a pigeon, and baby pigeons need "crop milk" from their parents, or a specialist substitute.

Unless you have access to pigeon owners/breeders, this little bird doesn't stand much chance of surviving, I'm sad to say.

I thought that too.

A friend of mine brought the chick to my house. He in turn was given the chick by a stranger who showed up at his workplace. The stranger didn't mention where he found this chick and apparently my friend didn't ask either.
