Stonechat with ''Bling''....... (1 Viewer)

Might be of interest to anyone currently with Stonechats on their patch?

This bird with 4 rings (two on each leg) blue/metal and orange/metal, was found on Chingford Plain, Essex yesterday. Images were subsequently sent to [email protected], and the feedback so far suggests a ''bird of the year'' controlled at Thetford, Norfolk, some 75 miles NE of location.....perhaps a case of Saxicola re-locatus :-O

Ridiculous over-ringing. Good shot though!

Cheers, I think that trying to read a ring on a "small bird" is nigh on impossible, unless you have max zoom at perhaps 10' for e.g. we don't often get that close.

Thus colour coordinated rings in an assorted order, would give you more permutations to play with regarding ringing project, gender etc. and no doubt being able to track individual species.

It would be interesting to understand the colour coding remit?

Have seen colour coordinated rings on Black-tailed Godwits, but there you have a lot of "visible shank" to multiple ring.
