Hello together,

one idea is Finland in late spring or summer.
I want to see other birds like home.
Also I am interested in wild flowers.
When starts flowering season in south and north e.g. Kuusamo area ?
Are there even good areas for orchids ?
In Alps good flower and even orchid areas are south and southeast skiing hills in late spring until July.

Birds I look for
Blyths Reed Warbler
Paddyfiled Warbler
Booted Warbler
Artic Warbler

Greenish Warbler
Grey headed Chikadee
Azur Tit
Sibirian Jay
Arctic Redpoll
Pine Grosbeak

Parrot Crossbill
Two-barred Crossbill
Little Bunting
Snow Bunting
Rustic Bunting
Yellow browed Bunting

Olive-backed Pipit
Petschora Pipit
Red flanked Bluetail
Sibirian Rubythroat
Gyrfalcon

Greater Spotted Eagle

I think owls will be difficult, especially in the noth, because it does not get dark in this time.
Usually I do not see owls, except in Argentina.

Thank You very much.

Best regards
Dieter

Hi Dieter,

I don't much about Flowers, so can't help with those.

But here is some Atlas-links for birds what you are intrested. Some of them you can find South and others North-Finland.

Blyths Reed Warbler http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/viitakerttunen
Paddyfiled Warbler: In Finland, a very rare but almost annual wanderer
Booted Warbler http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/pikkukultarinta
Artic Warbler http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/lapinuunilintu
Greenish Warbler http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/idänuunilintu
Grey headed Chikadee http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/lapintiainen
Azur Tit: almost annual wanderer
Sibirian Jay http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/kuukkeli
Arctic Redpoll http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/tundraurpiainen
Pine Grosbeak http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/taviokuurna
Parrot Crossbill http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/isokäpylintu
Two-barred Crossbill http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/kirjosiipikäpylintu
Little Bunting http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/pikkusirkku
Snow Bunting http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/pulmunen
Rustic Bunting http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/pohjansirkku
Yellow browed Bunting: does not occur
Olive-backed Pipit: sometimes in Finland, mainly in autumn
Petschora Pipit: seen once in Finland
Red flanked Bluetail http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/sinipyrstö
Sibirian Rubythroat: three observations in Finland
Gyrfalcon http://atlas3.lintuatlas.fi/tulokset/laji/tunturihaukka
Greater Spotted Eagle: annual wanderer

In Atlas blue dot means sure nesting.

Owls are much more easy in this time of year, but you might also see them at Spring/Summer.

Hi, "Warixenjalka"! I have just joined and do not have a nickname yet. I will be on a 2-week birding trip to Finland starting May 22. We will visit Oulu, Kuusamo/Lapland and go up to Varangerfjord. After returning to Helsinki, I will spend 3 days in Helsinki and 3 days on the road in S. Finland, seeing the lakes and visiting churches, old towns, and other places of interest, so will not have much time for birding. Is there any possibility of seeing the Bearded Reedling (Tit)? My basic itinerary will be Porvoo to Hamina, up to Imatra, then route 62 to Mikkeli, then to Lahti via route 314 (Sysma), and finally Hyvinkaa, Jarvenpaa & maybe Lohja. (Very ambitious for 3 days, but I'll have the midnight sun. What time does it get dark the first 2 weeks of June? Thanks so much!

Hi LRubin,

Best bet for Bearded Reedling on your route is Porvoo. If you bright my memory closer at D-day, I can seek for you the location where those have been recently.
First 2 weeks of June the "day-time" is about 19 hours. Sunrise is about 3.40 and sunset is about 22.40.

Sorry I wasn't able to find this earlier. I have been very busy planning my trip. I can hardly wait! Thanks for the tip, and I'll check back in with you in about a week.

Hi there, Warixenjalka! What about Viikki also for bearded reedling? I will be in Viikki the evening of June 4, and in Porvoo the morning of June 5, so maybe I will be lucky and see it in one of those places.
