Latest update from the BTO: A novel approach to monitoring
In liaison with the Bat Conservation Trust, we have been able to trial a novel approach for enabling large-scale, high quality, monitoring of bats through a project known as the Norfolk Bat Survey. We established 21 'Bat Monitoring Centres' across Norfolk from which members of the public could borrow a detector to take part in the survey. Making use of a large volunteer base allowed us to survey 8% of Norfolk - making it the largest known county-level dataset of this type. The data will be used for improving bat conservation and monitoring strategies.
