Rare Sparrow is Church Saviour (1 Viewer)

There is an article today in The Times, stating that more than £3000 has been raised by twitchers going to see the White-crowned Sparrow going toward roof repairs for the 13th century church in Cley. Its nice for the media to portray us in a positive light for a change and well done all those who contibuted. Its on p38 for those who wanted to know.

Thank you Hotspur and On-Firecrest for this news.It is a lovely thought that a sparrow so far from home (by whatever means) can help the church funds to the sum of what is likely to be over £3,300, and that there are no real losers; everyone has benefitted...birders and their reputation, the Church, the owners of the local pub, etc. The only drawback is that the white-crowned sparrow will not now return home, but at least he has survived the journey and has fed well, and hopefully will continue to exist with the local flocks of small birds.

Well done to the 'throng' - excellent donation by people who go to see rare birds in villages. (Bet the Vicar's glad he took the trouble to report his 'odd' looking visitor now - the bird I mean, not the bearded chappie lying on his stomach peering under the Vicar's gate. )

My grandma gave me a cutting of a similiar kind of artcile from the telegraph, where it was nice to see that they retain their factual accuracy, claiming it was £33,000 donated. ;)
