Is this bird a female Yellowhammer? Photo is dated June 2011.

I cant decide between Yellowhammer and Corn Bunting, the does not appear to be any white on tail and the bill appears heavy which point to Corn Bunting though.
You never mentioned where you took the photo, but I don't think it was in Santa Maria.

Oh, I've just seen Fugl's reply, I assumed you were looking at a euro bird and I was trying to make it fit.

Andy: "trying to make it fit" Me to! I have never seen a Song Sparrow with all this yellow. Does anyone know if this is one of the 29 subspecies? Or is it from eating caratinoids ? Or a known variant like the yellow House Finches???
