Norfolk birding (39 Viewers)

Breydon Water today Lesser yellowlegs still there and nice to get to see it.Walked up the North wall and good to make contact with a couple of Short-eared owls and a male Marsh harrier on the upper marsh. Good Wader numbers of Black-tailed-godwits Grey plover Curlew Dunlin Ringed plover and Lapwing + a couple Greenshank. And my second Kingfisher seen on Breydon. On the way back with the tide coming in pushing the waders closer and the sun setting that Breydon magic hundreds of Golden Plovers and the sound of Wigeon calling. What a place.

Waxham Chiffchaff

The four shots I managed to get of the Waxham Chiffchaff, attached.

Agree that the call that it was giving matches quite well the published calls of Mountain Chiffchaff.

Not sure how much further the identification can go, but a very interesting bird.

Curiouser and curiouser. Thanks for posting Sean. Wish I'd seen. I shared a link to your RBA images with a couple of folk. None thought it fitted Mtn.

I am noticing some new locations mentioned on BG at the Cley reserve e.g. Babcock Hide and Watling Water. Are these in the newly acquired section towards Salthouse?

Nigel

Yes, though there isn't any parking nearby. Free to N.W.T. members or day permit holders. Water pipit daily I'm reliably told. I think it's now known as Salthouse Marsh but you may find more info on the trust's website or that of the Cley Bird Club.

Looking at Brents in the Cley area the young birds only account for <2%. Presume it must have been a disastrous breeding season for them, as it seems to have been for many waders. Anyone looked at birds elsewhere?

110 on Titchwell beach last Wednesday and every single one was an adult. A few weeks ago I checked a flock of 150 at Frampton Marsh, Lincs and same there - not one juv.

Either it was a disastrous breeding season or these first arrivals are non-breeding birds and nearly all family parties are still somewhere to the east.
