Frankly, I am positively surprised by some of the species reported this year from my area. This weekend we have a combination of quite warm weather (larger birds already sitting on nests or making courtship flights; it was 21 degrees Celsius today in my city) and winter guests still around (particularly waterbirds). Owls and eagles were also reported. I think it is essential to be well-organized and immediately go to known hotspots (and find the shortest possible routes that connect them so you don't spend too much time travelling).
