Hello Mates

Just got today these female fairy-wrens today in Eastern Australia .Although I saw the first fairy-wren(Pic 1 and 2) very close to a male red-backed fairy-wren(Pic 3 ) , I still believe that the female is Superb and not Red-backed , since it lacks the brown Upperparts of the female red-backed , also the buff on the flanks I believe is a good clue . I am far from being sure of my assumption , so can I have a confirmation please if I am on the right count ???? Regarding the bird in Pics 4 and 5 , is it a female red-backed ??

For mine the females are Red Backed Fairy Wrens.
Location in Eastern Australia would be a help but if all photographed near the male I'd say lack of lore and eye ring to the base of the bill and that rufous colour points to female Red Back. Also the plain face lacking those features is a good pointer as well

Hello Greg

Thanks for the help . Actually I was having the only doubt regarding the lack of reddish brown lores and eye ring , but I was leaning more towards Superb since I thought the upperparts should be browner . But now as you explained the important features including the plain face pattern , and that the superb should show the reddish brown lores and eye rings , I am convinced now , Especially that I saw all the females near the male . But I have this attached pic for another female that I saw in a different but not far place . Can we say its female red-acked also ??

Many thanks for the help .
