I am a bit confused comparing the Charadriiformes tree created by John H. Boyd III and the 'Tree of Life' web project. In the 'Tree of Life' tree the Alcidae and Laridea was placed on the top while in Boyd's tree the order is conventional. It seems the 'Tree of Life' tree is just an upside-down version of the Boyd's. Why is that?

Surprising stuff! Especially the placement of tricollaris & forbesi. They've been previously considered conspecific, now they are presumably in different genera! To my eye this seems very strange. Anyone with experience of both, are they that different? Jizz, voice, behavior? Or could there be an explanation to their similarity?

Also Little Ringed (+placidus) closest to Shore!
