Swan upping started today - the process of the annual census of swans. It started in Sunbury, Surrey and will carry on till Friday where it finishes in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
The Queen's official Swan Marker, David Barber, said that bad weather and dangerous dogs could mean that the number of cygnets are down this year.
"Last year the numbers were quite good but we are expecting the numbers to be down this year," he said. "We had serious flooding last winter and many of the cygnets will have got washed into weirs because they weren't strong enough to survive the current. Some are also lost to dog attacks and natural predators."
