Hi ladies and gents. I have just joined the site and would like to introduce myself.

I am 28 and live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Trust me it is not half as bad as the media likes to portray it to be.

I suppose I can say I am an avid twitcher and like to do some birding when ever I have the opportunity. I am fortunate to be a specialist wildlife and birding guide, so have ample opportunities to be outdours and appreciate nature at its best.

Hopefully I will be able to provide some information to the forum at times and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible.

Check the gallery section in the near future for some photos of wldlife and birds from tours I have done.

Cheers

Robert

Hi Robert,

On behalf of Admin and the Moderators, welcome to Bird Forum :t:

Congratulations on finding your way to the site. We have a very friendly bunch of members on the site. I look forward to hearing about some of the stunning birds that you have out your way and especially viewing some of your photos.

See you around.

Robert, welcome to BF, and I really look forward to your photos and comments. I'm headed your way next September, and need lots of help learning about your birds!

Hi Charles, glad to hear you will be making it over to South Africa. Let me know if I can help with any info, and I will do my best.

Will it be your first visit to S.A.?

Keep in touch.

Robert, delight to have you be a part of BF!

Hope you'll consider being a part of our GGBC 2 -- a BF global event to see how many species we can see in a specified time period. We have one participant from South Africa already, and another would be very welcome! You can find full details on the Member's Notice Board.

Perhaps you'll be out on a tour that weekend, and could pick up some really fantastic species for us!

Yes it will, Robert, and I can hardly wait to get to the Dark Continent-- a boyhood dream!

There's a good bit of quality S.A. birding information on the internet, but as a matter of fact, I have a first, simple question: How long does it take to drive a minivan from Jo'burg to Cape Town, and what kind of road is it? I'm having difficulty getting a feel for distances in S. Africa, so I need some sort of 'baseline' measure.

PS: If you feel you are boring everyone else, you can P.M. me via the button below my posting!

Welcome (or should that be Welkom?) Robert to BF.

South Africa is one of the countries I most want to visit anywhere in the world and I really look forward to hearing more news from SA. Sounds like you have the dream job.

Greetings from a sunny autumnal Reykjavík

Welcome to the birdforums from another one new to this site, Robert.

I have been in South Africa and Namibia some years ago and I have to say it is really a great place for birds. You re lucky to live there!! But Joburg-well, I dont know but I had a bad feeling about it in 96. Well, probably you have to live there for some time to know where to go and where not. I also know some pretty bad places in Germany.

I was in the Drakensberg Mountains, at Knysna, in Kruger Park, the Cape region, the west cost and in Namibia up to Swakopmund...fantastic landscape and wildlife everywhere!

Hi Robert and a warm welcome from another South African - delighted to find someone else on the same land mass as me! Look forward to some great descriptions of birding, as a tour guide you must get around quite a bit. I see you already have some pics posted in the gallery - great!

Welcome Robert. I can only repeat what the others have already said. Ilook forward to meeting you on the forums. Cheers John.
