Sigma 300mm f2.8 EX DG HSM (non DG) compatibility with a 400D (1 Viewer)

I would like to purchase a used Sigma 300mm f2.8 which is an older version i.e. non DG version. Is this compatible with the Canon 400D or will it need rechipped by Sigma and if so is this possible. Does rechipping cost anything and do you need to show proof of purchase i.e. original receipt (which I dont have) 8-P.

Thanks in advance for responding,

Ickle :t:

Hi Ickle and welcome to BirdForum

It will depend on the age of the lens as to whether it needs to be re-chipped for use with a digital body. If you have the serial number of the lens then Sigma will be able to let you know if it will need doing. If it does need doing you will be charged, but I've no idea how much it is.
