Hi,
Is this first bird a Fieldfare? Also if anyone has the inclination, could you check the other mystery birds (gulls, mostly) on this page?
Most of the birds I saw were Northern Wheatear but too fast or sneaky for me to get a picture.
Got mostly photos of Lapland Longspurs and Raven.

Thanks!!!

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Your mystery bird is not a Fieldfare, but a a juvenile Northern Wheatear. Your mystery gulls in Greenland appear to be Iceland gulls, confusingly enough. The Copenhagen gulls are two Greater Black-backed Gulls and a Black-headed Gull.

Stuart

One of the two Copenhagen Great Black-backed Gulls is a Herring Gull and the ducks are Mallards. Love the Raven shot Carolyn!!!!

Thanks, Stuart....
I am very happy to hear it is a Wheatear. Since I saw so many dashing by with their little white rumps, it's nice to have a photo of one. Thanks on the Iceland gull and the others....the Iceland is a new one on me as is the Black-Headed Gull

Thank you Steven!
I thought the gulls looked like Black-backed but no matter how many books I have, the gulls are still very confusing to me.
The Mallards around here have greener heads, but maybe it was the light.
I was surprised and pleased to see that Raven on the ice! You never know with birds where they're going to show up.

The Mallards are in moult (in eclipse plumage), hence making them drabber and duller, in a few weeks time they will be nice and green headed again!
