Godwits on the BBC (1 Viewer)

Forum-ers might be interested in the colour-ringed Black-tailed Godwit featuring on tomorrow's 'Nature's Calendar' on the BBC. OR-RR was ringed as a chick in northern Iceland in July 2002 and has wintered in Belfast Lough every year since, making the occasional foray to The Netherlands in spring. To be part of this exciting project, report any colour-ringed birds to www.ring.ac to find out their life history.

Thanks for your post.

I have one question: the website you gave appears to only allow me to input the details for one colour-ringed bird at a time. I saw seven colour-ringed Black-tailed Godwits in one flock (the flock was c1,250 birds in total) on 8th October this year on Fobbing Marsh, Essex. Do I have to enter each one separately, or is there a method of submitting all seven at once?

Slightly unusual to see more than one colour-ringed bird at a time but not, I would have thought, unprecedented.

In the past I have used http://www.cr-birding.be/ to try to find the particular colour-ringing scheme involved and then e-mailed the scheme coordinator directly. To be honest, though some are good at responding and others never do, so I would be happy to give your website a try if you can let me know what to do with my multiple sighting.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

I think with multiple sightings of godwits its best to send them in one email to the operation godwit coordinators - see http://www.uea.ac.uk/~b072834/page6.html for contact details. For other 'mass sightings' email us at the BTO ([email protected]) and we'll send them on.

Thanks Mark. I have already sent them to UEA guys, but only two of the birds were theirs. I will send all of them to the BTO e-mail address you gave.

Thanks again.

Paul
