new to this forum, came here while searching for the comparison of 35-350 n 50-500.
not particularly into birding, but recently has been shooting quite some pigeons and sea guls...
using canon 40D and 350D, and yes, it is very possible to handhold the 50-500 and shoot at 500mm....quote someone else "the weight of the bigma is actually the best IS"
personally i agree to that statement, however only to the certain extend when your hand starts shaking due to the weight.
