Shoveler/Mallard Hybrid? Lunt Liverpool UK (May 23rd) (1 Viewer)

Hi all

The longer beak and especially the feathers make me think this is a Shoveler/Mallard hybrid - am I right?

thanks

Well, the beak is unusually dark, which suggests some domestic ancestry.

Interestingly, I can't seem to find any images of a female mallard-shoveler hybrid. But the males at least have a pretty dramatic bill, which I don't see in your duck.

When I look at female Shoveler then I can see something similar in the feathers - but that could just be me and my inexperience.

Regarding the dramatic bill of the Shoveler, I totally agree with you but because this bird's bill does seem longer than usual then it did make me think about a possible hybrid.

But thanks for your input guys - appreciate it and learning all the time :t:
