"Our" Turkey Vulture. (1 Viewer)

We have a very large sugar maple at the edge of woods behind the house.

I recently discovered that a Turkey Vulture Cathartes aura has been coming to roost in that tree, most nights. A very impressive bird, indeed, and evidently he (?) thinks he lives here.

I doubt if I'll try to feed him.

I presume he's only with you through the summer months Maljunulo and hope he becomes a regular visitor to you. How amazing to have one beside you.

I doubt if I'll try to feed him.

:-O

Oh go on... try ;)

Yeah, he might come around when you're down! (We wants pictures).

If he ever comes down into my yard, he will never get out, as he would have to go straight up for about 30 feet.

Either that or walk to someplace where he can get up a takeoff run.

Tonight, as I walked out onto the balcony, a little after 1730 EDT, there were five Turkey Vultures in my tree.

I had read that they roost communally, and even co-roost with the Black Vulture Coragyps atratus.

So far, only Turkey Vultures have appeared.

I love to see these guys around.

Just a suggestion. In the daytime you might want to hose down any droppings on the tree from the Vultures. Florida has lost a lot of trees from Vulture excrement ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, but the tree is about 70' tall ... I would need a fire truck.
