Hello.
It’s funny I came to the forum for the binocular section for the birding expertise on binoculars ( for travelling and general purpose).
However after going on here a few times I really like the idea of learning the names of the birds around me. Being able to turn the myriad of what I now see on my doorstep (the bournemouth seafront) as seagulls into a variety of different and unique species. (I just now read the huge seagulls I see every day are actually the biggest in the world, the Great black backed gull).
I must admit it was only today that I decided this. I took out my shiny new Nikon Monarch 7 8x30 binoculars and spotted a bird of prey. Looked at it through the binoculars and wow, just an incredible sight. It was only 10 meters away and with the binoculars was like I was holding it in my hand. I went home and discovered it’s a kestrel, hmm, this could be fun.
Any recommendations for a good UK bird ID app for iPhone would be great. I do prefer the look of photo ID to a sketch based one.
I liked the look of this one :
Birds of Britain Pro field guide
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/birds-britain-pro-field-guide/id360451309?mt=8&uo=4&at=10lt4F
And this seems to come up in searches although in two versions £14.99 an £8.99 of the Mullen and Pohland app, not sure of the difference :
Birds of Great Britain - a Sunbird field guide by Mullen & Pohland GbR £8.99
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/birds-of-great-britain-a-sunbird-field-guide/id1107472657?mt=8
All Birds UK - A Complete Field Guide to the Official List of Bird Species Recorded in Great Britain and Northern Ireland by Mullen & Pohland GbR £14.99
