Can someone please confirm that this is an Amazonian White-tailed Trogon female? Taken in Mashpi Shungo Reserve (Ecuador) on July 10.
Thanks
Chris

There is enough confusion with english and scientific names of the trogons in this area that I would like you to state which scientific name applies to the species you believe this to be. However, if it is T. viridis AKA Green-backed Trogon, then I think that species should not show the white separation between breast and belly?

I was originally thinking female trogon viridis, but Niels you're right that there shouldn't be any white on the breast. So I now believe it might be a female Amazonian Violaceous Trogon (Trogon violaceus - Guianan trogon). Would anyone concur?

Getting a bit confused with the discussion. Given that Mashpi is on the west slope in the Choco, this should be White-tailed Trogon T. chionurus and not Green-backed T. viridis nor Amazonian Violaceous Trogon T. ramonianus, neither of which occur on the west slope. It looks okay for chionurus to me.

I was assuming that this was in the Amazonian part of Ecuador. Should have checked - my bad
