Hi there

The first is Malaysian; the second is neither - a juv Lesser Sand Plover.

Cheers

Tqs all for the feedback.

Dave, how'd you figure the IDs?

Kentish and Malaysian are said to be differentiated by colour, and complete black band around the nape. Any other features to look for?

Now getting envious with your pics. Gotta get a good camera!

Hi there

Sorry for the long delayed reply!

Well, only adult male Malaysian has the full black nape band. Malaysian at all ages has a rather moth-eaten appearance to the upperparts due to each feather being subtly two-toned, while Kentish by comparison is uniform.

Structurally MP differs by being smaller and more petite (difficult to describe in words, easier as you spend more hours looking at them), a shorter, blunter bill and looks more 'leggy'.

Ah - I see the poison is starting to take effect! Gotta have that DSLR and prime lens!

Thanks alot! Now gotta find more plovers to look at :p

Just came back from Poring - Mesilau - KNP. Hada great trip tho wish could see more of the rarer finds.
