Hi everyone. Like a lot of folk, I'm not at all good with gulls - I freely admit.
This was 'called' a juv LBBG in the hide yesterday (admitedly I was amongst fellow photographers).
When processing it this morning I think it's a 2nd Winter Herring Gull, but if you were to tell me to stop talking b******s then I wouldn't be at all offended. Over to those who know about these things.

Hi Sy - this is a Herring Gull (the tone of grey on the emerging mantle in a very good initial clue) although I am torn between second and third winter. Clearly not a juv LBBG which have a mottled brown appearance and an all-dark bill. Like you I hate gulls; too many plumages and variations (which is, on the flip side, why others love them)

Wow Lou! What a site!
I think your link confirms my thoughts Herring Gull 2nd Calendar year in October, is that correct?
