Lark ID, South Africa (1 Viewer)

This silent Mirafra lark was 'written off' as Rufous-naped in the field. I thought I'd better check that I'm not overlooking a Flappet Lark, because it doesn't have a rufous nape, and the RNLs we saw to the northwest of this, at Kruger, all had rufous (not grey) upperparts.

pics taken at mKhuze in north Kwazulu Natal, where both species occur.

Thanks,

Larry

I'm not sure about Sth. African taxa but there appears to be too much rufous in the wing, the primaries extend just beyond the tertials and the bill looks as if the lower mandible is slightly concave. If it was in E Africa I'd go with Rufous-naped.
