  1. Hi wire fliers

    Hi wire fliers

The last full day of our short break on the west coast and it was my choice for where we went. Every time I've been in the area I'd wanted to do a loop round Knapdale, but never managed to fit it in. So we went for that. Before setting off, I spotted this Swallow sitting on a wire (pre-Ann...
  2. Moon Rise

    Moon Rise

Back at our Ardrishaig base that day, and a wander along the front, I was very taken with this sunset/moonrise scene.
  3. Tranquility

    Tranquility

The last picture from the first day, just before we went in for dinner. I just loved the light!
  4. Playtime

    Playtime

There was one of those big tent-shaped things as a climbing frame in the children's playground and I suddenly spotted this guy sitting on one of the ropes. Taken against the light on the early evening, so not the best of pictures.
  5. When's the next boat coming

    When's the next boat coming

No holiday on the West Coast would be complete without seeing a Hoodie.... or two.... or three LOL This one was beside the children's playground in the middle of the village.
  6. On station

    On station

One of the many herons we saw over the few days we spent on the West Coast. This one was here every time we looked for him LOL. I did like the early evening colours reflecting on the water, during our after dinner wander. Thanks for the good wishes too... still struggling a wee bit this...
  7. Busy, busy

    Busy, busy

This was rather a surprise, a Rock Pipit in the village, right by the shops and everything LOL. No idea where the nest could be, the sea shore was behind him, children's playground in front. Thanks for the heads up guys, ID changed.
  8. Another sea-weed chase

    Another sea-weed chase

My sister spotted some movement in the sea-weed and eventually managed to point me to the area. Had a bit of a chase around, with many empty shot attempts before finally getting him. Sorry for the lack of comments yesterday, but I really didn't feel too well. Thought I was better this...
  9. There's always one

    There's always one

.... well either she refused to look at me or where she was going.... or couldn't take her eyes of the boys. Another lovely species at Ardrishaig..... and not only a trip tick but a Year one too.
  10. Off with his head

    Off with his head

That's what happens if you don't obey the 'see, speak, hear' maxim. We'd taken a run up to Cairnbaan to have a little wander along the Crinan Canal (which joins Loch Fyne to the Sound of Jura - saving a couple of days sailing round the Mull of Kintyre). A beautiful canal through stunning...
  11. Loch Gilp

    Loch Gilp

This is the view from the front door of the hotel we stay at. And we could sit and eat looking at it too, as the restaurant overlooked the bay.
  12. Peek-a-boo

    Peek-a-boo

.... when I saw this picture in my folder, it reminded me of wee Joseph on Wednesday.... and his dad playing that game with him LOL. It was amazing that apart from a couple of Ringed Plovers later on during that break, Oystercatchers were the only waders we saw!! There'll be some better...
  13. Can you see me?

    Can you see me?

The first of my pictures from the short break I had with my sister at the end of May. We stayed at Ardrishaig, just outside Lochgilphead on Loch Fyne, a sea loch on the West Coast side of Scotland. I had a lovely day out with my great nephew. It was so nice to see the cheeky wee blighter LOL...
  14. A fascinating rock formation

    A fascinating rock formation

Last day today, heading home, but first I wanted to try and get a picture of the rocks on the beach opposite the hotel. It was very difficult getting an angle to really show it off and the close-ups I took don't work at all really. It was all ripply, like sand on a beach and I wondered if this...
  15. Ooops... it's a bit slippery!

    Ooops... it's a bit slippery!

This Hooded Crow was a pretty regular visitor on the beach outside the hotel. I'm pretty sure they are 'proper' ones on the West Coast (most of the hoodies round here in the east are hybrids - crossed with Carrion Crow).
  16. Crinan Canal

    Crinan Canal

The Crinan Canal starts at Ardrishaig, where I was staying. It was rather strange watching the masts passing by the roofs of the houses. It seems to take a while to travel the whole length, as the fee for using the canal includes 2 overnight moorings in each direction. So here's a 'slow lane'...
  17. Ardrishaig

    Ardrishaig

This was the view from the front of the inn where I was staying in Ardrishaig. The monument is a memorial to James Chalmers (1841-1901) who was brought up there. He was a missionary and worked in New Guinea, where eventually he was killed by natives (ummm... cannibals I think). It's on the...
