    One of the absolute highlights from our trip through New Zealand: the Kokako! Its chiming, impressive song might as well be one of the most beautiful bird songs I've ever heard, but finding one proved to be pretty hard, let alone photographing one. I was very, very happy with our encounter ;-)

    The Kokako is an endangered bird, with current population c1600. It is still in decline on New Zealand's mainland, but numbers are improving through breeding and management programmes in reserves and on outlying islands.
