    Flight shots of crows never seem to work particularly well (it's difficult to capture fine plumage detail, especially against the light) but I'm wondering what this bird is carrying in its bill.     This plain black bird is one of my favorites. Ron asked me what the nuts were. So I thought I'd mention it here as well. I'm pretty sure they're hickory nuts which are extremely hard to crack. My feeling is that they were scattering them on the pavement to let a car tire do the work for them.
