    Better not go fishing

A couple of weekends ago we decided to go up to Glenshee to see if, for once, I could get a glimpse of Ptarmigan in their winter dress. But, as usual, as we climbed to the top the cloud was right down to the road. Cup of coffee later, we changed tack and decided to take the long road home by a...

    Me and my shadow

Taken looking down from my third storey flat. This Pied Wagtail appeared just after our rubbish bins had been emptied, and was trotting about looking for any morsels that might have been dropped on the roadway. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
  3. Pied Wagtail

    Pied Wagtail

Taken looking almost vertically down from my flat window on the third floor, so rather an odd angle of view. I don't know why the bird was standing on one leg, it probably had its reasons. (Edit: just noticed I posted a similar, though not identical, shot of this bird in December. In that one...

    Pied Wagtail

Rather a heavy crop: the bird was on our electricity substation roof 25 yards away (not that far, but they're small birds). Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John
  5. Pied Wagtail

    Pied Wagtail

A drain at the back of my building sometimes gets partly blocked. This wagtail is looking for choice morsels in the mucky overflow there (photographed from three floors up). Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John
  6. Pied Wagtail

    Pied Wagtail

The Pied Wagtail of 29 December showed again on 8 January, a little further off but allowing shots from a more conventional angle (albeit in poor light, ISO 2000). It looks like a female. My mobility being a problem, I've seen the species only three times since 2015 (though on each occasion it's...

    Pied Wagtail

Just to clarify what I said earlier: the species I normally get here at home is Grey Wagtail. This bird is a Pied Wagtail, the first I've seen (here at home, that is) in 37 years. Very pleasing. Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John

    Pied Wagtail

Whatever it was he's better off without it!
  9. wary eye

    wary eye

This juvenile pied wagtail is apparently keeping a wary eye on what might be passing overhead.

    Pied Wagtail (2)

Ive never managed to get a decent shot of our resident Wagtail before. This time I watched where it was heading, went around the house the opposite direction, positioned myself, and waited till it came around the corner. Another snap!

Amazing how graceful a pied wagtail can be. This one was not only wagging its tail when walking but also singing at the same time. Must be the joys of spring which gets to us all at times. http://homepage.swissonline.ch/ken.billington/mybirds.htm
