Of the two species of tanagers that visit my backyard, the palm tanagers are my favorite. They don't come very often though, so I'm glad I could make this register.
Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum subsp. atripennis) Sexes similar. Canopy Lodge, El Valle de Antn, Cocl Province, Panam. Tropical rainforest/cloud forest becoming a more broadleaf evergreen forest with fewer deciduous trees at ca. 596 m (1,955 ft) elevation.
Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum subsp. melanoptera) Mirador Cataratas de Ahuashiyacu, north of Tarapoto, San Martn, Per along Hwy. 13 en route to the Tunnel. Roadside, tropical rainforest at ca. 610 m (2,000 ft) in the foothills of the Cordillera Escalera.
Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum subsp. palmarum) Sexes similar. South Wild, south of Pocon, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Riparian woods with cerrado adjacent to the Pixaim River with scattered wetlands at ca. 128 m (420 ft) elevation.
