Advice on using Nikon P950 (2 Viewers)

Hello all. I have recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix P950. I have used it in a couple of outings, but to date I have only taken pictures in Bird mode. However I am keen to use the camera in the manual modes, my preference being aperture priority mode. Are there any members out there that own a P950 that could offer me some advice on how best to set the camera up. I am keen to improve that quality of the pictures I take.

When you say 'keen to improve the quality', in what sense?

Can you post an example of the type of picture you're hoping to achieve? Otherwise it's not a tailored response but rather a load of words lacking context.

I just bought a P900 for $400 USA. That is about the maximum price for my budget.
I'm just learning to use the camera. I shoot from a tripod, usually using the 2 second timer, and morning light.
Here is a Cinnamon Teal (cropped) from Montana I shot on my hike yesterday morning.
The duck was about 80 meters away. Shutter speed 1/400sec, ISO400, f/6.5
