Bald Eagle and Egret (2 Viewers)

I was driving on the Florida Turnpike through the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area last week. I was very surprised to see a Bald Eagle chasing an egret high above the treeline. I'm pretty sure it was a Snowy Egret. They were making loops around and going back and forth so it was obviously a chase. I know Bald Eagles eat fish (this only the second time I've seen one but I've seen tv shows about them). But do they also eat birds? Or did he/she consider the egret competition for fish/territory and was trying to scare it away or kill it?

It is my understanding that the do eat birds, even large ones. We have both Sandhill Cranes and Bald Eagles winter here. Whenever a Bald Eagle is coming thousands of Cranes will lift off in a frenzy to leave the area.
