Hi all,

I'm posting this announcement from Batumi Raptor Count in Batumi, Georgia, Caucasus. I was there for a few days last year and can warmly recommend visiting, but perhaps one of you has the right experience and will stay a bit longer to help co-ordinating the whole event!

Best,
Antti

Dear friends of Batumi Raptor Count, raptor enthusiasts,

We are looking for dedicated and motivated raptor watchers to join us as count coordinators for the 2024 autumn season. The team of count coordinators is the backbone of the count, leads daily operations and guarantees the quality of the monitoring. Without coordinators we will not be able to run the count!

For count coordinators all expenses during your stay, including accommodation and food will be covered. In addition, travel costs will be reimbursed up to €400 and we offer a €1000 stipend to full-season coordinators to cover living costs at home. We are accommodated in comfortable shared rooms in a family guesthouse together with the volunteers. The family cooks for us every morning and evening, and lunch is packed for the day. During the season, there will be several social events and you can have regular days off to explore the surroundings or have some rest.

We expect coordinators to commit to working with BRC for the entire monitoring period, from August 8th through October 24th, 2024. If you are not able to commit to the full season, please indicate which half of the season you are available. Full-season applicants will get priority over those who can come for half-season only. Preferably, you are experienced with the BRC counts, other migration counts and/or with raptor monitoring. You should have a conversational command of the English language, a social and communicative character, some background in identifying Western Palearctic raptor species, and empathy for counters on all levels of identification skills. Basic computer competency and the willingness to contribute to public outreach will be needed. If you have not already read the Autumn Count page with general information about our count, please do so before submitting your application. Read more & apply here If you want to apply for this position and have been with us before, please send us an email expressing your interest and contact information (email address and phone number). If you have no previous BRC experience, please send us your CV with related experiences and a one-page cover letter including your name, age, contact information; describing your interest and personal motivation; any background you feel pertinent to this application; what you believe you can offer to the BRC as a count coordinator this autumn; and ideally 1 or 2 references. Please email your letter in English to [email protected] under the title "Count Coordinator" by March 7 at the latest. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible! We look forward to hearing from you!

Even if you're not interested yourself, please SHARE this message with anyone who may be.
