Bedraggled Robin (1 Viewer)

Roy C

Occasional bird snapper
I have noticed this Robin's appearance deteriorating over the past couple of weeks. Its coming to the feeders a lot - could it be that its feeding young and the efforts taking its toll or is it poorly?

Looks like it's just wet, Roy; maybe having to fly through wet leaves to get to the nest? Or to collect food/materials for nesting? Eye looks nice and clear; sometimes eyes look a bit misty or weep if they're ill... but I'm only guessing ;)

EDIT: just thought of another possibility; maybe there's a Sprinkler near the nest... still only guessing

I thought it looked wet Chris but it has been dry for a week now in my neck of the woods - this is not the first time I have seen this bird like this so maybe it is from a bird bath or sprinkler like you say.

Looking continuously wet like that in dry weather suggests oiled feathers to me. Not a good prognosis, unfortunately.

If possible, catch it and take it to a vet for cleaning.

Roy's suggestion of a bird bath is good one. If it is near another feeder, maybe its doing a round robin.;)

Sorry, I'll get my coat
