Beef trade, risk to ecosystem (1 Viewer)

I was in Rondonia and Acre a few years back and all large-scale deforestation of the Amazon rain forest is for beef as well (directly by conversion into grassland or indirectly for soy production). The very nice natural grasslands are even easier to destroy.

It's horrendous, it's not news, but it needs to be repeated.

If you ever wondered how hard it is to clear vegetation.

from the description (I don't know if this is meant to be cynical or serious):
There are a number of advantages to using mechanical land clearing methods. First, it is a very efficient way to remove large areas of vegetation quickly. Second, it is relatively safe for the operators of the machinery. Third, it is a relatively environmentally friendly method, as it does not involve the use of chemicals or fire.

Recent research has shown how the Amazon is a massive heat pump that pull ground water up through the trees and releases it in large volumes into the atmosphere. When it is destroyed it will result in a tremendous increase in arid lands and failed crops as well as animal extinctions.

All the damage done by the right wing government of Balsonaro will take more than a century to restore and most like never will be returned to it original state. There is an expectation that when people learn about the problem they will take action and they fail to realize that people like Warren Buffett simply don't care about the planet only their bank accounts.
