Best months to visit Namibia? (1 Viewer)

Hello, what are the best months to visit Namibia north to Etosha (not Caprivi strip / Okavango) for birds, and also big mammals? And secondarily, the same for western South Africa.

Tourist websites say December- March, Birdquest organizes a tour in July, and trip reports are often September-October. I am confused. And on top of that, weather in recent years is changing so older info may be not accurate.

For mammals at Etosha, the end of the dry season is best - it concentrates animals at the waterholes. Rains generally start November to December.

I'd aim at November, will also be northern migrants present. Rainy season is also good for birds, but can be hit and miss with some of the mammals (though is fresh green and a lot of mammals have new borns).

We did pretty well with all our targets in January last year. It was actually late January before Etosha got any significant rains and the salt pans started to fill.

We also did the North of SA and South of Namibia in both April and November a few years back both enjoyable and maybe better for number of big game but we saw everything in January too.
