Bird Nest in Fern and Sun (1 Viewer)

I have a baby bird in a nest in my hanging fern. The nest faces the afternoon blazing sun with temps 100+. Is it too confusing to the mom if I turn the fern around so the nest doesn’t face the sun?

Welcome to Birdforum.

It is an offence to interfere with an active nest. Doing so could cause the parents to abandon the nest. Please leave well alone.

Hi there,
On behalf of moderators and staff, welcome to Birdforum, I hope you find a lot of interest in our many sections.

Birds sometimes choose strange places to nest, hopefully the direct sunshine won't be a problem - presumably the adults incubated the eggs without a problem, so maybe the young will be okay too.

That said, if simply turning the hanging fern 180 degrees without moving it's location, I think it highly unlikely the birds will abandon the nest, so if really concerned, I'd say it's not so bad. If a nest is in a tree or bush, it can blown around to a degree without any adverse reaction, so I think a change of orientation of a hanging fern will not be an issue.

Hi Newy and a warm welcome from me too.

Well, maybe not all in one go (if the bird looks distressed), a little bit at a time might be better, so as not to make a big change to their flight path in.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
