Birding in Sardinia - any advice (1 Viewer)

I'm off to Sardinia for the last week in July. I know it's not the best time to go, but it's the only time I can make it. I'll be staying with my son in Alghero, and though he is fairly interested in wildlife, it won't be a full birding holiday.

The main species I would like to see are Barbary Partridge, Mamora's Warbler, Scops Owl, Little Bustard, Eleanora's Falcon and Purple Gallinulle. Only the Partridge would be new for me.

Has anybody got any tips or sites for these birds near Alghero. We will be hiring a car for the week, but I don't wont to have to drive for hours, so I'm looking for somewhere reasonably close (say within an hours drive). Will Lago Baratz still have water in July?

Also, is it worth doing the crossing to Corsica? The nearest port to Alghero seems to be Porto Torres. Is it possible to get to Corsica and back in a day from Porto Torres, and have time to find Corsican Nuthatch?

Finally, I'd be really grateful for any other advice or books you can recommend, regarding birding in Sardnia (in July!).

Thanks a lot

Colin
