This morning, I was out in my kayak in the Pearl River and came across a Northern Parula caught in a spider web. I forget what those spiders are called. They are the really huge ones that can be found throughout the southeastern U.S. Fortunately, the bird was still alive and trying to get free. I reached up with my paddle and freed it. The bird then flew away, called a few times, and even left a little something behind. I have heard about birds getting caught in spider webs, but this is the first time I have seen it happen. The spider didn't seem to have any interest. It sat there in the center of the web the whole time.
