Andrea Hart and Ann Datta. 2023. Birds of the World. The Art of Elizabeth Gould. Prestel Verlag, Munich. pp. 247; col. plates, col. figures. ISBN 978-3-7913-7987-6
Elizabeth Gould’s work was overshadowed by that of her husband, the entrepreneur and publisher John Gould. However, she supported and co-operated with him during the fledgling years of his success, and it is doubtful that without her artistic skills their earlier works would have achieved the fame they now enjoy. This book aims to set the record straight, combining a concise and well-researched biography with numerous plates showing her pioneering work as a lithographer.
