Bittern or green heron? Connecticut (1 Viewer)

We spotted this bird in a salt marsh along Long Island Sound. We thought it was a Bittern, but it may be a Green Heron.

Would appreciate help identifying it.

You can also see the gold fringes on the wing feathers (secondaries and coverts), among other things. (Colors are not the same as if the sun were behind the photographer, but look at the pattern. Bittern shows pale brownish speckly feathers where it's hard to see the edges of each feather; here you see each feather-edge brightly outlined.)
