I'm in the Southwest of the UK. A pair of blackbirds built a nest and laid eggs last year in our garden, it was unsuccessful and they abandoned the nest. This year a pair have built a nest in a previously successful place in the garden. They have not started feeding young and we are seeing the female around alot. We assume their eggs have not hatched again this year. We know it is the same pair due to the male being quite tame and coming in to the house for his mealworms. The female looks the same as the one last year.
Is it possible that this is an unsuccessful pairing? If so, what will happen? Will one or other pair up with a different adult?
