Blue tits (1 Viewer)

I have blue tits nesting but also have a neighbours cat being troublesome, but it’s only doing what comes naturally to a cat! I am concerned that the blue tits might leave their chicks, would they do that ?

Hi Mandy and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

Cats can certainly be a problem if they find the nest or the newly fledged young. We do have a sticky post that you might like to read: https://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=42039 with some ideas as to how to protect your birds. I hope you find it useful.

Whether your Blue Tits will desert the nest is hard to say. They will if there is any disturbance at all around it.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum! I am sure that you will find lots to interest you here, and I hope that you enjoy your visits.

If it puts your mind at ease, we have a lot of nests in our garden - blue tits, great tits, dunnocks and blackbirds and there are two neighbourhood cats, one of whom spends a lot of time in our garden. The birds raise their families successfully.
