six raffia straw small bird roost purchase cheap but 5 have many gaps to let in wind and rain. you get what you paid for.
Q: Can they be covered in plastic taped with duct tape, clearing the entrance, plastic will prevent heat loss and keep rain/wind out ? They will be put in hedge row with entrance clear, 3 in West direction 3 in East direction hedges.
I have timber 1inch thick and 6inches wide to make bird roost internal 5x6 12inches high entrance at bottom would this be too narrow for small birds where to site the bamboo perches roughed up with coarse grit sandpaper.
Q: what size for the likes of starlings/blackbirds, as it been forcast this winter will be colder than normal, with many open nest birds seeking closed in roosting overnight.
I seached net and never found measurements or blinked and missed em. Can I spray internal plywood with sealant/boat varnish outside to protect over winter then spring/summer get solid wood to replace the plywood one.
Thanks for reading my waffle.
