Je suis hereux de pouvoir dédier cette nouvelle espèce à Don Gregorio Contreras de Cutervo, comme témoignange de ma reconnaissance à l'égard du bon acceuil fait à nos voyageurs, ce qui a contribué en grande partie aux succès qu'ils ont remporté dans cette interesssante contrée.

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims:

Rufous-browed Peppershrike ssp. Cyclarhis gujanensis contrerasi Taczanowski, 1879
Gregorio Contreras (fl.1879), who lived at Cutervo, greatly helped Stolzmann (q.v.), who collected the holotype, during his travels in Peru (1879).

At les from OD nor the title Liste des Oiseaux recueillis au Nord da Perou par MM. Stolzmann et Jelski en 1878 I am not sure if Jan Stanisław Sztolcman or Konstanty Roman Jelski (q.v.) collect the holotype. But maybe the authers have seen the label of holotype or we can read this somehow from the introduction text?

The Key to Scientific Names

Gregorio Contreras (fl. 1879) Peruvian landowner, with estates in Cutervo, Cajamarca (subsp. Cyclarhis gujanensis).

If a local person it might be difficult to find any life dates. But I give it just for discussion.

Cutervo may not have seen that many travellers at that time. Seems a good place to see Steatornis caripensis.
