Day out at Abberton (1 Viewer)

Yesterday, I had a day out at Abberton reservoir, bit of a trek, but well worth it with the selection of birds on offer. The amount of birds on and around the reservoir is amazing with huge numbers of Great Crested Grebes, Pochards, Tufted Duck, Wigeon, Teal, Coots, Goosanders, and Goldeneye but plenty of quality as well, with Black-throated diver, Great northern Diver, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Black-necked Grebe, Slavonian Grebe, White-fronted Goose, Red Crested Pochard, Spoonbill and numerous Great White Egret among the highlights. Didn't managed to find the Canvasback or the reported Smew which was a shame, but couldn't spoil a fantastic day !! We also managed a quick diversion to have a look at the nearby Great Grey Shrike!! More details and pics on the blog. ( regarding the pictures, it was a very grey day and a lot of the birds were quite distant, but I done my best!)
